Snow Day

It's a snow day here in Toronto. Winds are blowing at 80 km/hour (50 miles/hour), and the forecast is calling for 25 cm (10 inches) of snow with the added bonus of ice pellets and freezing rain.
Schools are cancelled for the day, meetings have been rescheduled, and so far any clients I've reached out to are hibernating in their homes.
Even 4000 km west, on the far left side of the country, Vancouver (which rarely gets snow) is experiencing a snowfall that's "joyful or not so joyful" (depending on who you talk to).
This feels like a good day to share this wonderful photo taken by Calgary-based blogger Buzz Bishop (Instagram @buzzbishop). This photo couldn't be more Canadian if it tried. In the stunning snow-capped mountain ranges of Lake Louise, in Alberta, a frozen lake sets a perfect foundation on which proudly stands a steadfast hockey net.

We love images like this. The sharpness of the bold red hockey net contrasts beautifully with the just-out-of-focus mountains in the background. And the touch of frost that's glimmering on the net makes it perfectly clear what the temperature was when this photo was taken.
If you want to extract a marketing & design lesson from this photo, you can find it in this image's composition. Sharp bold colours juxtaposed against softer, plain colours. Horizontal and vertical lines complementing diagonal ones. Using the bottom-half & right-half of the available space. This photo gets a lot of things right that you can apply to logos, blog images, or social media banners.
Whatever the weather is doing where you are today, settle in and enjoy it. And don't worry, we won't be disappointed if you choose not to play hockey on a frozen lake in the Canadian Rockies.
