An Example Of A Business Doing Good

Here in Toronto, we've recently experienced a handful of truly cold, classic winter days. This morning it was minus-20 Celsius, and in a strange way that feels a little on the warm side because yesterday the "feels like" temperature was minus-35 Celsius (which, translated, is minus-26 Fahrenheit).
That's cold. The 25bikes office is close to Lake Ontario, where waves have actually frozen in place as they crash up on the rocky shore.
And when I bundled up in gloves, toque & scarf, and set the seat warmers to "High" whenever I headed out to a meeting, I was reminded of a local business here in Toronto that makes a true effort to help their local neighbourhood.

This is a photo of Master Mechanic's High Park location near the intersection where Dundas West & Roncesvalles Avenue meet. This auto repair shop could easily run a profitable business by simply changing your oil and rotating your tires. But they have decided that it's also their role as a local business to give back to their community, when they can.
So they harnessed the visibility of their high-traffic signage to offer scarves, gloves and toques to anybody who needs them. Drive past their location and you'll see dozens of scarves and other warm winter clothing items they have attached to their sign. And through their social media they invite their followers to stop by and do the same.
It's a simple little gesture, and a nice little reminder that your business doesn't always have to be "just" a business.
